Mario is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, composer, and songwriter based in New York City. Originally from Miami, Mario began his musical journey studying bass and guitar under jazz bassist Brian Tate and classical guitarist Fernando Farias. His early passion for music led him to form bands and secure gigs at local Miami venues. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in 2018, where he honed his skills in electric bass performance under esteemed instructors John Lockwood, Dave Marvuglio, and Oscar Stagnaro.
With over 7 years of teaching experience, Mario offers instruction in electric bass, guitar, drums, and piano. He is a strong advocate of music as a form of communication and believes that exposure to a variety of musical styles enriches a musician’s voice. Mario has performed in various genres, including pop, rock, musical theater, jazz, and chamber music. His recent projects include the experimental chamber quartet orchiddbb, chamber pop ensemble Buried Giant, the musical Tess: A New Musical, and Country/Folk band Leather Dollar.
Mario’s teaching approach emphasizes developing a personal musical language through improvisation, ear training, and song analysis. He strives to create an engaging and enjoyable learning environment by tailoring lessons to the individual student’s musical interests. Advanced concepts are introduced in the context of music that inspires the student, making them more accessible. His experience as a band director for School of Rock further informs his teaching, particularly in the areas of articulation and tone during performance.
Mario is excited to help students cultivate their technique and creative expression while making the learning process enjoyable and rewarding.
