Joseph began his musical journey as a young child. Fascinated by his aunt’s grand piano, he would sit with her and they would play together. He soon got a keyboard, which he used to make his own songs. Then at age five, he began piano lessons. In elementary school, Joseph added recorder and saxophone, and shortly thereafter also began to study guitar and bass.

He continued to study saxophone and guitar under the direction of Brian Lewis at Chaminade High School, where he also participated in NYSSMA. Joseph then attended New York University, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Music Education. While at NYU, he studied classical piano with Ju-Ping Song and Jorge Parodi, jazz piano with Johannes Wallmann, and jazz guitar with Bruce Arnold. After graduation, Joe continued to study jazz piano with Adan Perez. He also continued his study of baroque and classical music, performing on both piano and guitar in a duo setting with David S., longtime pupil of renown flutist Julius Baker.

Joseph is a seasoned performer in a wide variety of genres and styles, having played everywhere from churches to CBGB’s to large outdoor music festivals. In addition, he is highly knowledgeable about keyboards, synthesizers, apps, software, recording, guitar/bass setups, and music gear in general.

Over nearly twenty-five years as a teacher, Joseph has had the opportunity to work with students of all ages and ability levels. In addition to private music lessons, he has also taught Elementary General Music in a public school classroom. As the result of his diverse array of education and experiences, Joseph brings a fresh and unique perspective to his teaching.
