Alkis was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, and moved to NYC in 2007 to further his career in singing and acting. While obtaining bachelor degrees in Psychology at McGill University and in Music at Concordia University, he also studied with some of the most accomplished and decorated Canadian opera singers of his generation. Following his academic pursuits, he went on to become the lead tenor for three years with one of the oldest operetta companies in North America, the Montreal West Operatic Society.
Once in NYC, he continued his vocal development under the tutelage of the most esteemed singers and conductors in the world, including some of the leading stars of the Metropolitan Opera. His passion for the stage also led him to study at the Actor's Studio, which, along with his psychology background, provides another important dimension to his teaching process. He is also a dedicated Zen meditation practitioner and coach, helping students develop mindfulness and presence in their performances.
Alkis has been appearing on theatre stages and venues all over the city for almost twenty years now, performing in several genres, from pop and musical theater to straight plays. There is no place he won’t indulge his passion for singing - he is equally at home in a jazz club as he is in a West Village bar leading Christmas carols.
A polyglot fluent in French, Greek, and Italian, Alkis is equipped to teach and perform a vast repertoire of music. His philosophy is rooted in the fundamentals of the Bel Canto method, a centuries old tradition that aims to produces a beautiful, unforced sound, and bring out all the colours, range, and resonance of the human voice. While it is primarily associated with opera vocal training, it can be applied to any genre. He has helped singers achieve their vocal and artistic aspirations for over twenty years now.
