Alexandria Smith is a Manhattan based trumpet player currently working towards her Bachelors at Mannes the New School for Music. She has studied with Thomas Smith (New York Philharmonic), Raymond Riccomini (Metropolitan Opera), Craig Fraedrich (Army Blues), Carl Rowe (Marine Band), and Anthony Coleman (composer/improvisor).

Alexandria has a multifaceted career. Some of her achievements include being a member of the Lorin Maazel’s Castleton Festival, premiering new music at Spectrum NYC, premiering an opera at Roulette, winning Shenandoah University’s solo competition, being chosen as a semifinalist in National Trumpet Competition, performing many electronic music concerts with Max and Ableton, playing on many sessions for various bands in NYC horn, and she is also a member of many orchestra sublists and summer festivals.

Alexandria also has a huge passion for teaching and has been doing so for the past 7 years. In addition to teaching privately, she taught a group trumpet class at Community Elementary/Middle in Hollins, VA. She's also been a teaching artist, performing outreach concerts with the Brass 5 (Yamaha Performing Artists), the Eastern Music Festival Brass Quintet, and has also formed various outreach ensembles for Mannes.

Her philosophy is that the trumpet is an amplifier for one’s voice, and that there are no limits to what a student can do. Everyone has a different voice and will need a special approach that is catered to their unique ability and their musical imagination.
